Illinois Fire Fighter Peer Support llinois Fire Fighter Peer Support is defined as assistance provided by a trained individual or group of trained firefighters and emergency responders who answer the call to their brothers and sisters in need, regardless of the need.

Firefighters and Addiction Firefighters face a demanding work environment. Long work hours, lack of sleep and risky exposure to fires create considerable stress. Some resort to drinking alcohol to cope. This behavior may develop into an alcohol use disorder and interfere with job performance.

The Recovery Village:  The IAFF Recovery Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland is a one-of-a-kind addiction treatment facility for IAFF members, exclusively Firefighters and EMS First Responders. We specialize in treating addiction, PTSD, behavioral health issues, and co-occurring disorders for IAFF members only. IAFF Recovery Center is a safe haven for Firefighters and EMS First Responders who understand the fire service culture and associated pressure from the job to heal from anxiety and substance abuse disorders. Being at an exclusive facility will allow you to safely engage with other Firefighters and EMS First Responders that have faced similar challenges (from substance abuse to PTSD). We use evidence based approaches, such as cognitive behavior therapy and exposure therapy, to help treat IAFF members suffering from trauma. If you are Firefighter or EMS First Responder struggling with trauma, give us a call so we can help you start your journey to recovery. Our recovery center is located only a short distance from Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD.
